As the organizer of the OBAL ROKU competition, I have the honor and joy of watching this unique platform grow each year and push the boundaries of packaging design in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Five years ago, I took over the competition with a clear vision – to support innovation, sustainability, and quality, which our packaging scene needs in order to shine on a global level.
Since then, we’ve managed not only to increase the number of entries but, more importantly, to raise their overall standard. The competition is no longer just about beautiful design, but about complex solutions that respond to today’s market challenges – from environmental responsibility to functionality and technological innovation. Thanks to this evolution, we now regularly send dozens of top-tier Czech and Slovak packaging solutions to the prestigious international WorldStar Packaging Awards, and our participants are bringing home significant accolades.
What brings me the most joy in this role is the fact that OBAL ROKU is not just a competition – it’s a vibrant community of people committed to improving the packaging world. We bring together companies, designers, manufacturers, and experts who jointly seek and find new solutions. This connection has helped Czech and Slovak packaging earn global recognition and build a strong, competitive brand for the region.
I thank everyone who is part of this story – contestants, partners, jurors, and my colleagues at SYBA. Without you, OBAL ROKU would not be what it is today – a prestigious platform that inspires and drives the entire packaging industry forward.

Dear Friends,
It is with great pride that I watch how the OBAL ROKU competition, under Iva’s leadership, continues to push the boundaries of packaging design every year. Not only is the number of entries growing, but more importantly, their quality is improving – as evidenced by our success at the prestigious global WorldStar Packaging Awards. While in the past we sent just five Czech and Slovak packaging projects to WorldStar, today it is regularly 25–35 projects per year, with an increasing percentage of them being awarded.
This remarkable growth confirms that OBAL ROKU is not just a competition, but a rigorous filter that selects truly top-tier solutions. Thanks to its focus on innovation, functionality, and premium design, we are helping Czech companies stand out on the global stage.
The high participation of award winners at the WorldStar Awards galas also attests to the competition’s quality – this year, 25 representatives from the Czech Republic and Slovakia gathered in Milan, while last year in Bangkok there were 23. Our packaging professionals attend these prestigious ceremonies together with their clients, which further underscores the value and prestige of the awards. In Milan, all award winners from the Czech Republic and Slovakia personally accepted their trophies once again, including those who secured top positions in special categories – such as last year’s first place in the marketing category of the WorldStar Awards.
I would like to thank all participants, partners, and jurors for their enthusiasm and support – without you, OBAL ROKU would never have reached such a high standard.
