The WorldStar Packaging Awards is a prestigious global competition for the world's best packaging organised by the World Packaging Organisation. In this renowned packaging competition, the judges award packages that stand out above the rest in their category not only in terms of innovation and design, but also in terms of protection and preservation of contents, ease of handling, ease of filling, opening and closing, cost-effectiveness of production, environmental impact, adaptation to local conditions, and brand presentation.

The global WorldStar Packaging Awards competition is qualified by success in the national OBAL ROKU competition.

Obalový Institut SYBA, the organizer of the OBAL ROKU competition, is the only exclusive member of the World Packaging Organisation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Category

ECO-CAGE from fully recyclable material, the basket promotes sustainable packaging solutions, helping to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment. Ventilation holes ensure optimal airflow and cooling, keeping fruit fresher for longer during storage and transport. The carrying handle is reinforced with reinforcing tape to ensure sufficient load capacity of the packaging. Its lightweight but strong construction ensures high durability and easy handling for the end user, this makes it an ideal choice for use in supermarkets, farmers markets and homes. An added bonus is transport - the paper basket is transported flat (2,160pcs/pallet) and therefore leaves a much smaller CO2 footprint.

The "Max for ECO" concept is a one-way overseas packaging solution for the new version of the Prusa 3D printer with integrated Encloser.

The goal of the development was an eco-friendly and completely recyclable packaging. In addition, due to the remote shipping destination, the customer required maximum weight reduction, thus minimizing shipping costs.

We successfully eliminated all recycling-complicated and heavy materials and concentrated in particular on the often unappreciated properties of cardboard.

Thus, most of the parts of this packaging are "paper", as a passerby would say😊.

The bottom, the cover and the partial internal fixings were provided by corrugated cardboard treated for overseas transport.

The conventional wooden pallet was replaced by a moulded pallet of suction-coated cardboard with a moisture barrier treatment.

The pallet-binding PET tapes were replaced by kraft tapes in this concept.

The essential parts of the set are internal fixing elements made of special expanded PE foam. This material is not very common in our packaging market. We have chosen it for its optimal physical properties, which are in particular its mechanical resistance to compression and vibration, high protection of the product against scratches due to its structure and lower weight than conventional, for example cross-linked foams. At the same time, this material is made up of 30% recycled material and is fully recyclable.

The viewer's eye will also be drawn to the bevelled shape of the upper part of the outer shell of the packaging, which follows the shape of the packaged product, but also prevents the forbidden stacking of another pallet unit by an unruly transporter ☹.

Category

Little Luko, a dynamic microgreens start-up, began in 2019. After initial struggles, they connected with us on LinkedIn, and together we created SpeedTray. The packaging features a self-locking bottom and stackable elements. Packing time dropped from 37 to 13 seconds—now that’s fast! The kraft material added moisture resistance and sustainability. The result? A 56% material saving, a 79% reduction in CO2, and a 30% cut in packaging costs. This means annual savings of €16.000, a significant step toward sustainability and expansion into retail. SpeedTray isn’t just packaging—it’s a story of innovation and success. Little Luko is thriving!

Compared to the original version, the number of nests in the blister increased from 6 to 7 pieces. Despite the fact that the method of storing the product had to be preserved. The reason is the need to place several different types of "Spiral housing" rotation, including easy scanning of the DMC code from above. The blister thus remained universal for 5 types of final products and for 3 different customers in the automotive industry.

The improved construction also consists in the inclination of the walls, which are not at the usual angle of 3°, but at a greater angle of 10°. Better stackability is achieved, a larger number of empty blisters can be stored on a pallet. The blisters fit deeper into each other, for the same volume fits now 8 blisters comparing 2 of original ones. The greater inclination of the walls also ensures easier separation of the blisters from the stack (the blisters do not get stuck together). We have achieved significant savings in transportation, space in the warehouse, and space on the production line. Less time for supplying line is needed.

The ergonomic and safety requirement from production for problem-free handling of a full blister suceeded. Due to the uneven distribution of the parts in the blister, it was necessary to prevent tipping when inserting a full blister into the KLT (the center of gravity is not in the center of the blister), which was solved by better placing the space for the hands and also by enlarging it. All marking requirements had to be met. By changing the material, costs were reduced by half compared to the original price of the blister, and the strength of the blister was also improved. The material is recyclable.

The improved construction – increasing the number of pieces per blister/pallet and changing the material resulted in a total saving for the planned volumes during the life-time of the project (2024-2032) of at least 16.7% (exact amounts cannot be given) in the following areas:

When the customer aproached Smurfit Westrock to replace plastic packaging, we didn’t hesitate! As their packaging development center, we transformed the original plastic inserts into an elegant paper design. The result? A 100% elimination of plastic, specifically 52 tons. Transport tests were more successful than ever before! Plus, there’s 63% fewer trucks on the road. By eliminating plastic and reducing truck numbers, we cut CO2 emissions by an incredible 83%, which equals 162 tons. We also save 59% on pallet space, reducing logistics costs by €17.000 annually. When it comes to packaging, Ravensburger knows we deliver!

For the original PSINA board game, we designed a packaging that supports the player experience and completes the overall impression of the game. Considering the specific needs and playability for both humans and dogs, it was essential to develop packaging that was durable, functional and visually appealing.

The packaging and the fixation of the game components are made of corrugated cardboard. The fixation of the elements has a dog paw design, which emphasizes the game's theme and ensures that the elements are safely stored during transport.

The visual aspect of PSINA's packaging was another important aspect. For a perfect impression, a print was created using the digital printing method, which fits perfectly with the game concept. To further increase the appeal and 3D effect, dog paws and tongue were added to the lid of the packaging. And as a unique feature, moving eyes were also added to give the game owner a surprise and add a dynamic dimension to the cover.

For Orkla Foods Czech Republic and Slovakia, we designed and produced a premium presentation package that impresses with aesthetic appeal, provides a high level of content protection and reinforces brand identity. This package is the result of thoughtful design and technological know-how.

The project utilizes advanced digital printing and laser cutting technologies, which allowed for a detailed design. Modern technology has created an exceptional marketing tool that promotes the company's image and increases sales.

The dominant element of the package is the logo and slogan "Let's Gorilla!", laser cut into the corrugated cardboard, ensuring precise lines and a unique texture. Underneath the die-cut logo is a layer of colour that highlights these elements and adds a dynamic look.

The package includes corrugated cardboard fixings for stability and product safety during transport. All materials used are fully recyclable.

The original novelty boasts super-premium packaging that combines tradition with innovation and embodies excellence and determined character. The unique low bottle shape with its thick bottom and sharp shoulders, complemented by a solid wooden cap with engraving, is unconventional and distinctly different from competing bottles.

The bottle features an original script logo applied by screen printing and a minimalist label combining textured paper, spot colours, hot gold-stamping and partial 3D lacquer. These technological refinements add a tactile dimension to the packaging, enhancing the complex sensory experience.

The transparency of the packaging, thanks to the transparent back label and subtle logo on the front, enhances the colour of the drink and creates a spectacular play of light and branding when displayed in backlit bars. The product's lower carbon footprint is supported by the minimal amount of material used for the labels and the logistics of transporting only the liquid across the ocean in a tank with final packaging in the Czech Republic.

The original overseas packaging concept of the EWP3 water pump - carton + disposable blister - did not suit the new design of the adapters. In addition, there was an insufficient number of pieces on the pallet. With increasing volumes in the following years, there would be problems with a very frequent, essentially continuous supply of empty containers to the line. For that reason, the supplier Boxon was approached, and together with the Volvo customer, we looked for the best possible solution.

The packaging must meet all requirements for product quality, be suitable for transport and meet the logistical requirements of the Volvo customer and Vitesco internal requirements.

The aim was to avoid plastic packaging and replace it with a cardboard separator. Thanks to this, it is not necessary to separate the inner packaging and the box when unpacking the goods at the Volvo Cars customer. This also reduces the amount of intralogistics for waste sorting.

The space for each product inside the grid is quite small to prevent movement inside the box. Several cutouts have been added to protect sensitive parts. In addition, Boxon has implemented a cut-out for the pipe - poka yoke - so there is only one way to insert the parts into the package. In this way, we avoid downtime and errors during packaging on the line.

The number of pieces per pallet increased from 96 pieces to 192 pieces for one variant and even to 256 pieces per pallet for a smaller part. During the lifetime (7 years) of the project, a total of 25,000 handling units are saved.

The packaging meets all legislative and customer labeling requirements and is fully recyclable. The grid is assembled by an external company - due to time constraints, it is not possible to assemble the grid on the line. Even so, significant savings were achieved in the following areas:
